GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — Officials on Long Island have closed two beaches because of concerns about elevated bacteria levels.

The Nassau County Department of Health says it closed Laurel Hollow Beach on Friday.

Also, North Hempstead Beach Park was closed as a precautionary measure due to heavy rainfall.

Officials say storm water runoff can increase bacterial levels for swimmers.
