Fired NY1 reporter Adele Sammarco, who lost her federal sexual-harassment suit against the Time Warner cable company last year, is back in the news — this time as a political candidate.

The New Jersey resident is campaigning on the Democratic ticket for mayor of Matawan, population 8,810.

Sammarco said she decided to run for local office after learning there were no Democratic challengers in the race.

“I felt strongly, as a resident, that all residents of Matawan needed representation,” she told the Matawan-Aberdeen Patch news Web site.

During the June 2010 trial, Sammarco dramatically wept on the stand as she told of a hostile newsroom in which her male colleagues openly joked about her breast and buttock size, and a male reporter forcibly kissed her after a party.
