NYC a haven for homeless
New York is more compassionate than any major US city in caring for the homeless, Mayor Bloomberg said yesterday.
The city plans on spending $955 million on homeless services in the next fiscal year beginning July 1.
Street surveys show New York had about 1 in 2,500 residents living outdoors.
The ratio in San Francisco was 1 in 259 and 1 in 290 in Los Angeles.
