Bracing for
, the Department of Education has cancelled school for the city’s 1.1 million students.
Parents and kids flooded the DOE’s Twitter account throughout the day to ask about Thursday’s status — with many pleading for a reprieve.
While most of those lobbying for a cancellation said they were concerned about safety, others were more candid in their requests.
One student tweeted that she hadn’t finished a history project and needed the extension.
Another seemed unsure about their prospects on a test tomorrow and said an additional day’s study would help them prepare properly.
Mayor De Blasio announced earlier in the day that field trips were cancelled — but declined to make a final determination about the school day at the time.
He was hounded on Twitter for the staggered announcements, with many parents grousing that the late call made planning difficult.
