The head of the NYPD detectives union has urged Gov. Hochul to appoint a special prosecutor if newly elected Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg refuses to enforce the law in criminal cases.

In a letter dated Wednesday, Detectives’ Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo asked Hochul to assign a prosecutor to oversee matters in which Bragg “intervene and appoint a special prosecutor to oversee those matters in which the Manhattan district attorney fails to abide by his sworn oath of office and declines to prosecute or downgrades violent felony offenses in order to advance his personal, unsafe, reckless and personal agenda.”

DiGiacomo cited Bragg’s Jan. 3 memo to prosecutors ordering them to decline to prosecute some nonviolent cases and downgrade various felonies to misdemeanors, including certain armed robberies.

The policy has already been put into action, with The Post reporting earlier this week that a suspect in an armed robbery of a Manhattan Duane Reade saw his felony charges reduced to mere misdemeanors.

Bragg has faced mounting backlash, including calls for his ouster, over his crime-fighting tactics.

He was asked Thursday by a photographer about an online campaign launched this week — and pushed by Republican gubernatorial candidate Andrew Giuliani and Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa — demanding an amendment to the state Constitution to allow for a recall of his election.

“I haven’t heard about what either of those two have said, so no comment,” Bragg said as he arrived at his Lower Manhattan office.

Asked on Thursday about the backlash over his policies, Bragg said, “I was elected by the voters of Manhattan. We’re two weeks in. We plan to deliver safety and justice for all, and we’re focused on the mission.”
