Drivers whose cars were towed in a Vision Zero crackdown last week on unpaid vehicle fines told The Post Saturday they were blindsided by the sudden sweep.
“I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. That’s $140 [towing fee] on top of my fine. De Blasio decided he’s short on money and decided to cash in on us,” griped Alexander Rock, 43, whose Ford Explorer got wheeled away in the Friday sweep in Brooklyn.
In all, 160 drivers — owing millions in parking and moving violations — had their cars hauled to a pound during the crackdown, deputies from the city Sheriff’s Office said.
The targeted tow-fest focused on vehicles that had at least $2,500 in fine — though many had much larger debts, officials said.
Rock, whose car was booted and towed while he was at work Friday, said he owed about $1000 in unpaid parking tickets.
“I just want to get my car and get the hell out of here,” he grumbled as he sprung his car from the pound.
Flatbush resident Richard Dobson, 50, said he owed about $700 — and can’t get his car off the lot until Monday.
“I had two jobs to do this weekend, painting a basement and a moving job, but I had to cancel those. I’m losing $700. It’s just sitting there,” he griped.
The rest of the towed vehicles, some of them Taxi & Limousine-licensed cars and dollar vans, will remain at the pound until someone fork over the dough to get them out.
