A gunman blasted a man outside a Bronx housing project, then fled inside the building, where the NYPD spent hours in a standoff outside an apartment that they later discovered was empty, according to police sources.

The 25-year-old victim was shot outside NYCHA’s Edenwald Houses just after 6:15 p.m. Friday — with the alleged assailant then running into the building and supposedly locking himself in an apartment.

Both NYPD Hostage Units and Technical Assistance Response Units were on the scene, waiting for a judge to approve a warrant before entering the apartment where they believed the suspected assailant was holed-up.

It was not until 11:40 p.m. — five hours into the supposed standoff — that police were able to enter the apartment with permission from its owner, sources tell The Post.

Upon entry, officers found the apartment to be empty, the suspect nowhere to be found.

Police are still searching for the individual wanted for the shooting outside the apartment complex Sunday morning.
