None of the 40 finalists in this year’s Intel Science Talent Search, considered by many to be the most prestigious science competition in the nation, attends a New York City public school.

Additionally, New York state’s unwavering dominance over the 70-year-old competition — often referred to as the Junior Nobel Prize — ended this year when California put up 11 finalists to New York’s seven.

In recent years, New York state has yielded as many as 15 finalists.

The local shutout included the city’s private and parochial schools.

The competition awards $1.25 million in scholarships each year.
