A Queens man told cops he bludgeoned his 71-year-old downstairs neighbor to death early Friday because he was being too noisy, according to police sources.

The 37-year-old suspect, who lives above the elderly victim on 138th Street near 90th Avenue in Jamaica, heard a noise coming from downstairs and forced his way into the apartment just before 1:30 a.m., the sources said.

Then he started striking the victim with a metal pipe, according to the sources.

The victim was found with severe trauma all over his body, cops said.

EMS pronounced the victim dead on scene, where the suspect was also arrested, police said.

Charges were still pending against the alleged attacker later in the morning. He went to Jamaica Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, cops said.

The victim was not identified pending family notification.

A building resident who gave his first name, Jose, said he heard someone ringing his bell in the early morning — and then heard a person “making a lot of noise.”

“He went to the third floor,” the resident said. “Nobody opened the door. He was mad. He was coming down [the stairs], you could hear [him] in the whole building.”

Then his bell rang a second time.

“I said ‘No, I’m not opening my door for anybody,’” Jose said. “After that, I heard the noise again. I stayed up but I don’t come outside because you never know what’s going on.”

Later, he found out about the murder.

“I say, ‘Oh my God,’” he said. “I know the guy. He is a good guy.”

The victim lived on the third floor for more than five years, according to the building superintendent, who also only gave his first name, Julio.

“I feel bad,” Julio said. “He doesn’t bother nobody.”

The victim used to work at a hospital but retired, and had since taken up a job as a driver for people with disabilities, working nights, according to Julio.

“He lived alone,” he added. “I’ve never seen him with anybody.”

The suspect, who works in security, also lives alone but a woman often comes to visit, according to the super.

Thursday afternoon, the suspect made an unusual gesture, Julio said.

“I saw the guy about 4 o’clock yesterday. He gave me something,” Julio said, holding up a religious pamphlet. “He told me, ‘Oh, I love you.’ He gave me a hug.”

“He never talked to me like that, no – never,” he added. “When he comes here, he says, ‘Hello super, hi, hello,’ He wouldn’t say nothing more.”

“But yesterday, he gives me hug, he say, ‘I love you. If somebody wanna bother you, let me know because I love you, you are a good man,’” he added. “This guy never talks to me like that.”
