Democratic mayoral nominee Eric Adams said Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s decision to step down while battling sexual harassment claims was imperative for state government to continue handling COVID-19 and other pressing matters.

“The governor’s resignation was necessary for New York State to move forward and continue the critical work of our recovery,” Adams said in a statement Tuesday.

“I look forward to working in partnership with Lieutenant Governor Hochul on the key issues affecting our city and region at this pivotal moment,” Adams said.

Hochul will replace Cuomo when he resigns in 14 days, according to state law.

Last week Adams, the Brooklyn borough president and likely next mayor of the Big Apple, said Cuomo’s resignation wasn’t necessary for the state to function.

“The business of the state must continue. The business of the state doesn’t fall apart because of one individual. There are processes in place to assure that it happens,” Adams told The Post at a Queens event on coronavirus vaccinations on Aug. 5.

At the time, Adams also said he didn’t regret appearing with Cuomo at a July press conference about the city’s gun violence problem where the governor gushed about their “true mutual respect and friendship.”
