An off-duty officer with the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority fired nine times at four people who were assaulting him after a minor highway traffic accident, striking one person.
New York City police say the officer, whose name was not released, was rear-ended off the Major Deegan Expressway as he drove home around 5 a.m. Wednesday.
He and the passengers of the car that hit him fought on a street off the highway. Police say the officer was beaten and tossed to the ground, suffering head, neck and knee injuries.
Police say he fired nine times at the four people, striking one person in the torso. Police said the injuries weren’t life-threatening. No one else was injured.
Three people from the other vehicle were arrested
