Prosecutors say an angry partygoer has been convicted of setting a fire in a New York City apartment building after being asked to leave a get-together.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s office says Daniel Phillips was found guilty Monday of arson and other charges in the January 2009 incident. Phillips’ lawyer didn’t immediately return a call Monday evening.
Prosecutors say the 31-year-old Phillips reluctantly left a friend’s birthday gathering and started a fire in an area where recyclables were stored. Prosecutors say flames and smoke shot up the five-story building’s stairwell, blew out a skylight and caused more than $320,000 in damage. No one was hurt.
Phillips faces up to 25 years in prison. His sentencing is set for Nov. 23.
