The trial of a former Boston and New York radio personality charged with sexually abusing two 11-year-old girls and raping one of them has ended in a hung jury.

A mistrial was declared Thursday in the case of Edward Maurice Hopkins after the jury deliberated two days.

Prosecutors said Hopkins abused the girls in his Manhattan apartment sometime in spring 2004. One of the girls was the daughter of Hopkins’ companion and the other was the girl’s best friend. Prosecutors said he later raped the friend.

Hopkins’ attorney, David Cohen, said the defense showed that the witnesses were not credible.

Hopkins called himself the “Crossover Negro” on the air. He worked in New York from 2000 to 2005 on Hot 97.1 FM. He later worked at WRKO-AM in Boston.
