A dozen members of the New York City Sheriff’s Office have been suspended for pillaging the agency’s stash of booze confiscated from bars and clubs that violated COVID lockdown rules, officials confirmed.
The workers are accused of stealing an unknown amount of liquor as part of an investigation by the city’s Department of Investigation, according to agency sources.
The bottles were allegedly taken from a storage unit in Long Island City, according to The City, which first reported the story.
The members were suspended without pay on Tuesday, officials confirmed.
“This serious breach of public trust will not be tolerated and we will not allow it to undermine the hardworking men and women of the Sheriff’s Office and their mission to keep New Yorkers safe,” said a spokesman for the Department of Finance.

A spokesman for DOI said the investigation was “ongoing” and declined to comment further.
