It was a bloody start to the weekend in the Big Apple, with two people killed, and 13 others shot or slashed across four boroughs in a 15-hour span, authorities said.
The violence began around 2:30 p.m. Friday at 641 E. Tremont Ave. in the Bronx, where Jeremiah Smith, 24, was fatally shot in front of a Popeyes, police said.
Smith was shot in the torso and later pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.
Three others were hurt in the broad daylight shooting, including a second man shot in the torso, a third who was hit in the ankle and a fourth was struck in the buttocks, cops said.
Two men, Jose Parilla, 32, and Salvatore Rivera, 51, now face murder charges in the incident, authorities said.
A 41-year-old man was slashed during a dispute outside Lavo Nightclub in Manhattan. Seth GottfriedTwo hours later in Queens, a 33-year-old man was shot in the left leg while on Astoria Boulevard, near 8th Street. The victim took himself to Elmhurst Hospital, according to the NYPD, who said the suspect ran from the scene.
At roughly the same time, in Brooklyn, four people were shot on Coney Island when a minivan pulled up to a group of people at 3222 Mermaid Ave., and someone opened fire.
Two men, 25 and 26 years old, were shot in the leg while a 17-year-old took a bullet to the torso, and another person was hit in the leg. All were expected to survive, police said.
The bloodshed didn’t slow down from there: by 6:25 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the shoulder while on 183rd Street near Jamaica Avenue in Queens, and was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.
At 11:30 p.m. a smoke shop worker in Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill neighborhood was pistol-whipped and shot in the head by two gunmen who raided the store at 477 Myrtle Ave. and made off with more than $4,000, police said.
The shooting was one of a series of recent incidents in the city’s smoke shops.
The slashing victim was “highly uncooperative,” according to police. Seth GottfriedBy 2:32 a.m. Saturday, gunshots again rang out in Astoria, Queens, where a 23-year-old man was struck in the left thigh on 33rd Street near 28th Road. Medics rushed the victim to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was expected to survive, authorities said.
At around 4 a.m., a man was slashed in the face and arm in front of Lavo Nightclub on East 58th Street, between Madison and Park avenues in Manhattan, police said. The “highly uncooperative” victim, 41, was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition, cops said. There are no arrests.
Around the same time, a man, 25, walked into Queens Hospital Center and said he’d been shot in the left leg, police said.
And at 5 a.m., back in the Bronx, a 27-year-old man was shot and killed while standing outside of his car in an apparent drive-by in front of 1556 White Plains Rd., the NYPD said.
The victim was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center. No arrests have been made.
