A group of Bronx vigilantes meted out street justice on a sicko who tried to rape a 70-year-old woman — beating him up so badly that he landed in the hospital, cops and residents said Tuesday.
Oswaldo Ramos, a 50-year-old career criminal with 19 previous arrests, had approached his victim from behind at Creston Avenue and East 184th Street in Fordham Heights around 1 p.m. Friday and tried to sexually assault her, police and residents said.
Surveillance video released by the NYPD showed the perv scrambling to put his pants on after the attack.
Oswaldo Ramos, 50, tried to rape an elderly woman in a sick broad-daylight assault in Fordham Heights in The Bronx, cops said. NYPDThe next day, vigilante neighbors spotted the wanted man nearby after apparently recognizing him from the released footage and took matters into their own hands, law-enforcement sources told NBC 4 New York.
The enraged locals allegedly grabbed Ramos at Tiebout Avenue and East 187th Street and roughed him up to the point that he needed medical care.
An anonymous caller told detectives later that day about the crew of vigilantes, the outlet said.
Before hanging up, the caller told detectives they could find their suspect in the hospital, the outlet reported.
The suspect was allegedly caught on camera trying to put his pants back on. DCPIBefore hanging up, the caller said the cops could find their suspect in the hospital.
One of the vigilante residents confessed to the beat-down to The Post on Tuesday – and said he would do it again.
“Yeah, we beat him up,” said the local man, who did not want to be identified.
“You don’t do that, that’s something you don’t do,” he said of the suspect.
“And if he comes back, I’m going to rock him again.”
Another man, 59, who also did not want to be identified, confirmed the beat-down, too.
“We don’t tolerate that kind of stuff around here,” he said. “You won’t see any video on it. No cameras.”
A woman who lives nearby added, “I heard that there was a man trying to go through someone’s fire escape, and [the victim] came out yelling, ‘Naked! naked!’
“And some of the residents started to cover her up.”
Ramos has 19 prior arrests, most for robbery and burglary, cops said. NYPDThe NYPD said Ramos, who lives near the crime scene, was arrested Sunday and charged with attempted rape and burglary.
He had not been arraigned by Tuesday afternoon, as law-enforcement sources said he was still at St. Barnabas Hospital.
The exact nature of his injuries was unclear.
Ramos was last arrested Oct. 6, 2018, for allegedly robbing a Bronx deli while claiming that he’d just shot a cop, police said.
He allegedly barged into the shop on East 178th Street near Mapes Avenue, flashed the butt of a black handgun and sneered, “Give me the money. I just shot a cop. I’ll be back tomorrow for more money.”
He had not shot a cop, police sources said.
The disposition of that case was not immediately known.
Most of Ramos’ prior arrests have been for robberies and burglaries, according to authorities.
