The city will finally breathe life into a pair of long-neglected community centers that are supposed to serve the residents of two struggling Brooklyn public-housing complexes, officials announced Thursday.

The Gowanus Houses Community Center, which has been shuttered for 14 years, will undergo a $4.5 million renovation thanks to $947,000 in funding secured by the City Council and another $3.5 million funding committed through the New York City Housing Authority.

The council has also dedicated $50,000 this year to provide programming at Gowanus’ community center in the interim while the renovations take place.

A community center serving the Wykoff Gardens Houses in Boerum Hill is also getting a major makeover, including classrooms and a new kitchen. Funding for that project includes $2.5 million secured by the council in this year’s budget, coupled with $2.4 million that was previously allocated.

The funding was announced by Council Speaker Corey Johnson and Brooklyn Councilman Stephen Levin.
