NYer jailed for Iran aid
A New York contractor has been sentenced in Brooklyn federal court to 92 months in prison for trying to export restricted technology from the United States to Iran.
Richard Phillips had admitted that he violated the ban on exporting high-tech goods to Iran. Phillips, 54, who lives in The Bronx, tried to ship what he believed to be a large spool of industrial carbon fiber to Tehran, despite knowing that such exports were against the law.
Phillips was caught in a sting by answering an ad — placed by the feds — on a Web site asking for help in circumventing the embargo.
