A new statewide poll shows that 67 percent of voters support legalizing the sale of sparklers during the Fourth of July and New Year’s holiday seasons.

“Two-thirds of New Yorkers, including the majority of virtually every demographic group, support permitting the sale of sparklers on July 4th and New Year’s,” said Siena Research Institute Director Donald Levy, who conducted the survey for fireworks merchants.

Mayor Bloomberg, the NYPD and other authorities oppose legalizing sparklers, citing post-9/11 terror threats.
