A few more New Yorkers are hitting the road this Memorial Day weekend than last year.

Because of the slack economy, only 0.5 percent more people from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania are traveling more than 50 miles from home this weekend, says AAA.

That’s less than the 1.5 percent increase in travelers expected nationwide. Triple-A says the difference is a sign that the region’s economy isn’t improving at the same pace as the rest of the nation.

Motorists will find gasoline cheaper this year than last. Regular in New York City now costs about $4.008 per gallon, 18.4 cents less than a year ago, AAA says.

Nationally, gasoline costs $3.666 per gallon, down 14.8 cents from last year.
