Extra firepower has been deployed around the city to protect NYPD officers in the wake of the cop killings in Dallas and Baton Rouge, officials confirmed Tuesday.

Chief of Department James O’Neill sent a memo Monday to all officers informing them that the department wanted to “achieve maximum visibility” around areas where they gather. Officers from the Critical Response Command and Strategic Response Group units will randomly visit numerous commands per platoon, the memo says. The teams will be visible with helmets and long guns.

“Although there are no credible threats to any Department facilities or personnel, the Chief of Department has directed, in order to achieve maximum visibility and to augment security at precinct station houses, Police Service Areas and Transit Districts throughout the city, that personnel assets from CRC and SRG will be utilized for high visibility station house security coverage,” the memo states.

The specialized CRC and SRG units were created by Police Commissioner Bill Bratton to quickly respond to active shooter and terrorist attacks.

“The chief of department made the decision to increase security at precincts and other police department facilities out of an abundance of caution following the attacks in Baton Rouge and Dallas,” a police official said.

A high-ranking police source pointed out that the department wanted the cops to know they were being supported.

“I think we have to make the cops feel like the people in the department and the people in the city care about them,” the source said.

Five officers were killed by a gunman in Dallas during a Black Lives Matter protest on July 7. Three cops were killed in Baton Rouge on Sunday, while three other officers were wounded. Security has also been increased around NYPD headquarters at One Police Plaza in downtown Manhattan, where flags have hung at half-staff since the cop killings in Louisiana’s capital.
