The bribery trial of a de Blasio donor and allegedly crooked cop could be delayed yet again — this time until 2019.
A Manhattan federal judge Tuesday said he will consider postponing the Oct. 4 scheduled start of the corruption trial of Jeremy Reichberg and ex-NYPD Deputy Inspector James Grant to May because of a defense lawyer’s unexpected medical emergency.
If delayed, it will be the second major adjournment in the high-profile case, which is expected to prove embarrassing to several former high-ranking NYPD officials, including ex-NYPD Chief of Department Philip Banks, who has been named an unindicted co-conspirator.
The first delay, which resulted in the Oct. 4 trial date, was triggered by an evidence blunder on the part of the feds.
Now Grant is seeking a delay because his lawyer, John Meringolo, needs time to recover from a sudden medical condition.
The judge said he may grant the requested delay if Reichberg agrees. The alleged cop-briber recently claimed that his Constitutional right to a speedy trial had been violated due to the first delay.
Reichberg is expected to respond through his lawyer in the next 24 hours.
The feds say Reichberg, a former Borough Park, Brooklyn, policy liaison, teamed up with real-estate investor Jona Rechnitz to shower cops with gifts in exchange for illegal perks, including gun licenses and a police escort that closed down a lane of the Lincoln Tunnel.
Banks’ former right-hand man, Michael Harrington, has already pleaded guilty in the case.
