NYPD’s outgoing Chief of Department Rodney Harrison has been nominated to take over as the top cop in Suffolk County, a county official confirmed Monday.

Harrison would become the first black police commissioner in the county’s history, if confirmed by the public safety board, a spokesman for Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone told The Post.

The Suffolk County Police Department has roughly 2,400 officers, making it the thirteenth largest force in the nation.

Harrison announced on Thanksgiving he would be leaving the NYPD at the end of December. A native of Jamaica, Harrison joined the force in 1991 and broke barriers in the department over his three decades, becoming the first black chief of detectives.

He is exiting the NYPD as the highest-ranking uniformed officer. Harrison succeeded Terence Monahan, who retired earlier this year and went to work for City Hall.
