New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea has tested positive for coronavirus.
“He is doing well. He is home. He is running the department remotely. He is in regular contact with senior staff,” a senior law enforcement official told The Post.
The NYPD confirmed the news on Twitter.
Police sources told The Post that Shea had recently been in close contact with people who had later tested positive for the virus. He then quarantined and got tested, the sources added.
The city’s top cop is the latest in the NYPD to test positive for the pandemic bug that has sicken thousand of officers and led to the death of 46 uniformed offices and civilians members of the force.
Already this year, 462 cops have tested positive for the virus, according to police officials.
It was not immediately known if anyone else among the executive staff was in recent contact with the commissioner and had quarantined.
The news comes two days after New York City’s second attempt to give out the vaccine to more than 70 percent of cops was shut down by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
