Two NYPD detectives exchanged gunfire with a suspected armed robber in the Bronx Tuesday evening — and nobody was struck in the incident, police said.

The detectives from the Bronx warrant squad were in Morrisania conducting a separate investigation when they came across two armed men trying to rob a group of people near Second Avenue and E. 167th Street just before 6 p.m., police said.

One of the suspects struck one man with a handgun, according to the NYPD.

The detectives — who were wearing their vests with “police” written across them — intervened and one of the robbers fired the gun at them, police and sources said.

The detectives returned fire, with each firing one round at the gunman.

Neither the officers or the gunman were struck, police said.

The two men fled down Third Avenue and remain at large.

Both detectives were brought to Lincoln Hospital where they are being treated for tinnitus, police sources said.
