A deranged maniac tried to kill his estranged wife and kids by blowing up their house in Queens on Thursday — with the force of the blast throwing responding cops off their feet, police and sources said.

Anrup Parasram, 50, stormed into the basement apartment in Ozone Park shortly before 2:45 a.m. and torched the place, sparking a massive gas explosion that looked like something out of a Hollywood action movie and was caught on NYPD police body cam footage.

More than a dozen people made it out of the building but Parasram never made it out —  his charred body was found under the smoldering debris.

“I was sleeping when I heard the explosion,” said neighbor Marie Jean. “When I looked out my window, I saw the house was on fire.

“When I saw the people running from the house, I came downstairs,” said Jean, 82. “They were running with no shoes on. I opened the door and let them in because it was cold. They looked scared.”

Jaw-dropping police bodycam footage shows the moment cops responding to a 911 call of a dispute when the blast goes off and knocks them off their feet.

They dust themselves off and jump into action, the clip shows.

Parasram’s estranged wife, daughter and two grandchildren lived in the building. Neighbors said he had lived there too but had moved out sometime in recent weeks.

A family member had desperately placed the 911 call and told the operator that there was a smell of gas wafting throughout the house. It wasn’t clear if and how Parasram had set off gas inside of the place.
He had menaced his terrified family with a knife as he doused the unknown accelerant around the place apparently ready to kill them and himself, sources said.

At some point,  one of more family members was able to escape the house of horrors and handed her keys to a large group of police arriving at the scene.

The video shows officers trying different keys at the front door before the massive explosion ignites, with the subsequent fireball lighting up the predawn sky.

“The guy just lit the house on fire,” one of the cops is heard saying on the footage. “We have explosions.”

The cops then help others escape the burning building — miraculously, with no serious injuries reported, police said.

“Our officers were at the front door of the residence attempting to enter when suddenly a massive fiery explosion erupted,” said NYPD Assistant Chief Christopher McIntosh, Patrol Borough Queens South commander.

The blast sparked a massive, five-alarm inferno that quickly spread throughout the two-and-a-half-story private home and extended to the home next door before the building dramatically collapsed. “Multiple officers were thrown off their feet, with some being launched into gates at the front of the residence,” McIntosh said. “Even after that, after being injured, officers rushed into danger.”

The five-alarm fire collapsed the two-and-a-half-story home and spread to a neighboring building before the blast, he said.

Parasram had a history of domestic violence and three expired prior orders of protection issued starting in 2023 and most recently in 2024.

Eight officers were taken to area hospitals in stable condition for minor burns, lacerations to the head, and other injuries.

Four others were also hurt, including one firefighter, according to the FDNY.

Police said Parasram was seen on surveillance video breaking into his wife’s basement apartment by pulling an air-conditioning unit out of the window while lugging two garbage bags with cannisters of unknown substances.

Harry Ramsundar, a 62-year-old spiritual healer who lives near the scene, said he was sitting awake in bed when he heard the explosion, followed by people yelling.

“They were saying, ‘Fire, fire, let’s get out of here,’” he told the Post.

He went to sleep and woke up to find the home had collapsed and was still burning.

“Thank the Almighty, lots of people got saved,” he added.

Yashoda Singh, a 31-year-old mom who lives on the block, said her home was damaged by the flames — and forced her out into the street without shoes.

“My kids are traumatized,” Singh said. “My 3-year-old is not eating. She’s asking, ‘Can I go home?’ I told her, ‘There is no home.’

“My 10-year-old son is asking, ‘Mommy, what happened?’ I just told him, ‘The fire came over here, and we don’t have a house right now.’ This is a big loss for us. We just renovated the place.”

It was not immediately clear what the dispute was about.

“I want to be clear,” McIntosh said. “We got very lucky today. This could have turned out very differently.”

Meanwhile, NYPD brass had nothing but praise for the cops.

“They were hurt,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a press briefing. “They had just been thrown to the ground by an explosion.

“And in that moment, with no clear sense of what else they might be walking into, they made the decision to keep moving forward.”
