BROOKLYN
* A young man was shot and killed yesterday on a Canarsie street, cops said.
The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was shot once in the neck at Ditmas Avenue and East 91st Street at 3 a.m., when a man approached and opened fire.
The victim was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where he died. The gunman fled. (m, s)
* A young man chatting up some girls was blown away by a gunman who jumped out of a vehicle early yesterday in Canarsie, police sources said.
Ruhiel Johnson, who was in his 20s, and his friends walked up to a group of eight to 10 girls at East 92nd Street and Ditmas Avenue at about 3 a.m. and started talking with them, cops said.
Moments later, an argument ensued in which one of the girls slapped one of Johnson’s friends.
It was not immediately clear what the dispute was about.
Suddenly, a vehicle pulled up and four unidentified men got out. After they intervened in the fight, one of the four men pulled a gun and shot Johnson in the neck and left leg, sources said.
The suspects fled. Johnson was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where he died. (lcf)
* A man has been arrested in the hammer beatings of two people on a Bedford-Stuyvesant street, authorities said yesterday.
The violence began at 8 a.m. last Thursday, when Terry Burrowes, 33, began arguing with one of the alleged victims, a 31-year-old man. That man, who lives near Throop Avenue and Madison Street, objected to Burrowes selling pot there, police sources said.
Burrowes followed the man to the front of a Laundromat, then allegedly pulled out a hammer and hit him. The owner of laundry, a 54-year-old woman, intervened to stop the fight. Burrowes allegedly hit her and fled.
Police were called and arrested Burrowes that day on charges of assault, menacing and weapons possession.
* A suspect has been arrested for allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint and injuring an elderly woman while running from police, authorities said yesterday.
The stickup began at 12:10 p.m. last Thursday, when Devion Lamb, 20, approached a man with a laptop at an outdoor cafe at Cortelyou and Stratford roads in Kensington, sources said.
Brandishing a gun, Lamb allegedly demanded the laptop as the victim put his hands up. The sources said Lamb then swiped the laptop.
Police saw Lamb running at Cortelyou Road and Coney Island Avenue. As a cop gave chase, Lamb allegedly tossed the laptop into bushes and shoved a 68-year-old woman into the path of the officer.
She fell to the ground, suffering a broken wrist.
The officer finally arrested Lamb, who was charged with robbery, assault and weapons possession.
QUEENS
* Police yesterday identified a man who was shot dead in Astoria street.
Ashley Bayke, 24, of Brooklyn, was found lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his head at 23rd Street and Astoria Boulevard at 3:10 a.m. Saturday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not know the motive.
MANHATTAN
* A woman who threatened to jump into the East River yesterday was found alive in the water just off Manhattan after police traced a cellphone call, authorities said.
The 44-year-old woman, whose name was withheld, called 911 in the early hours and said she was going to jump into the river, cops said.
While the 911 dispatcher stayed on the line with the woman, NYPD Aviation and Harbor cops began searching the waters at about 3:30 a.m. and found her just off the FDR Drive near East 40th Street.
She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
* An unlicensed driver was arrested at a DWI checkpoint in Harlem after police learned the car was stolen, authorities said yesterday.
John Manigauld, 41, of New Haven, Conn., was driving a red 1987 Cadillac east on 142nd Street at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday when police noticed the vehicle was missing a license plate in front and stopped it at the checkpoint at Fifth Avenue, sources said.
Cops ran the car’s vehicle identification number and found that the Caddy had been stolen in New Haven in April, the sources said.
Police also learned that Manigauld’s driver’s license had been suspended.
He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and aggravated unlicensed operator of a motor vehicle. (lcf)
