THE BRONX
*** A 59-year-old South Bronx man – arrested for violating an order of protection – hanged himself inside a holding cell in the 41st Precinct station house, police said.
Wilfredo Rivera was taken into custody around 10 p.m. Thursday after his former girlfriend called police, reporting that he was trying to force open the lock of her apartment on Dawson Avenue.
She had obtained a court order last July after charging that he had harassed her.
About an hour after he was jailed, Rivera was found in his cell unconscious and not breathing.
The cops said he apparently lashed his shirt around his neck and to the bars and leaned forward, compressing his neck in the makeshift noose.
He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m.
The police were investigating whether department procedures were followed.
*** Two gunmen invaded a check-cashing store in the South Bronx, forced workers into a back room, ordered one to open a safe and made off with $60,000 in cash yesterday morning, police said.
The brazen robbery at 701 Hunts Point Ave. occurred around 8 a.m. when the gunman surprised a worker who was arriving to open the store.
They pushed him into the back room, ordered him to open the safe and handcuffed him to a radiator.
In addition to the money, the thieves grabbed a stack of MetroCards.
The suspects were described as black males, one wearing a black sweat suit, the other green sweatshirt.
BROOKLYN
*** A deadly argument on a Flatbush street left one man shot in the head as dozens of frightened onlookers ran for cover last night.
The victim, described only as a 22-year-old man, died instantly after he was shot in front of 996 Nostrand Ave. at about 5:30 p.m.
Police described the suspect – who fled north on Sullivan Street after the shooting – as a 35-year-old man with dreadlocks, wearing a blue sweatshirt with white stripes.
*** Two people – including an innocent bystander – were gunned down in front of a Bedford-Stuyvesant building, police sources said yesterday.
The victims, a 16-year-old boy and a 34-year-old woman, were shot in front of 1448 Pacific St. at 11:18 p.m. Thursday, the sources said.
The gunman had had an argument with the teen a few hours earlier and came back to shoot him.
After shooting the teen once in the inner left thigh, the attacker began firing at a crowd standing nearby. The woman was hit in the abdomen and left arm.
Both victims were taken to Kings County Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition last night.
It was not clear what beef the triggerman had with the teen victim.
*** A 33-year-old man was arrested after beating up his girlfriend and her sister in East New York, then killing the man who tried to stop the violence, authorities said yesterday.
Lee Jackson was charged with knifing 21-year-old Dwayne Murray to death inside the Atlantic Avenue apartment of the suspect’s girlfriend at 12:45 a.m. Thursday.
According to law-enforcement sources, the deadly fight began as an argument over smoking. Jackson got up to leave, but his girlfriend told him he couldn’t, sources said.
In the heat of the argument, Jackson allegedly body-slammed her and punched her. Her sister intervened and was also assaulted.
That’s when Murray stepped in and tried to persuade Jackson to drop the matter and leave. Instead, Jackson turned around and stabbed him, police said.
Murray was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead 30 minutes later.
Jackson is charged with manslaughter and weapons possession.
*** Two brothers were busted for killing one man and injuring two others during a neighborhood barbecue in Flatlands two months ago, police said yesterday.
Troy Williams, 30, and his 27-year-old brother, Junior, were arrested in connection with a bloody brawl at an East 58th Street home, where they had crashed a party in the early-morning hours of Aug. 28, authorities said.
At the time, witnesses said a group of drunken youths double-parked their car and walked into the shindig uninvited.
A melee ensued, and up to 100 people were on the street arguing.
That’s when Troy Williams allegedly drove off, only to get out of his car and come out guns blazing.
He allegedly fired a shot that killed 25-year-old Jermaine Gibbs and injured an 18-year-old man.
His brother, Junior, stabbed another 18-year- old man during the brouhaha, authorities said.
Troy is charged with murder and weapons possession. Junior is facing attempted-murder, assault and weapons-possession charges.
MANHATTAN
*** Police have nabbed a 29-year-old man in Florida for the shooting death of a Bronx man in Harlem earlier this year, authorities said yesterday.
Arnaldo Rivera, 29, was arrested on Sept. 19 in Orlando and was extradited to New York on Wednesday on a murder charge, cops said yesterday.
Rivera was wanted in connection with the murder of Angel Arias, 31. Arias was killed the night of Jan. 11 after a heated argument in front of a building on West 151st Street near Broadway, police said.
Rivera allegedly pulled a gun and shot Arias in the torso.
Arias was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he died a short time later.
STATEN ISLAND
*** A pizza deliveryman was shot and injured by two thugs who lured him to a dead-end street last night by ordering a pie.
The 21-year-old deliveryman for M & J Pizza had answered the robbers’ take-out order at 262 Melvin Ave. – but there is no 262 Melvin Avenue. Instead, there is a dark street where the thugs hid.
When the confused deliveryman got out of his car to check the address, they pounced and demanded his money. When he refused, one of the suspects shot him in the leg and took the cash, police said.
He was in stable condition. Two men fitting the description of the muggers were being questioned at the 122nd Precinct station house.
