The body of a young woman was discovered last night in the trunk of a car in Washington Heights. Cops found the body shortly after 7:40 p.m. at Audubon Avenue and West 180th Street. Investigators were trying to identify the woman, in her 20s, and determine how she died.
Two 14-year-old girls have been arrested in the Feb. 13 mugging of another teen on a Washington Heights street, a police source said yesterday. The suspects allegedly confronted the girl, also 14, on West 174th Street and Amsterdam Avenue at 8:15 p.m. and snatched an undetermined amount of property from her. The suspects, whose names were not released because of their ages, were collared Sunday and charged with robbery.
A man was arrested yesterday for stabbing six people during a dispute in East Harlem, police said. The violence erupted at about 5 a.m. outside El Nuevo Mexico Restaurant on Second Avenue near East 105th Street. Adam Gomez, 21, allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the men. All were in stable condition.
THE BRONX
An emotionally disturbed man brandishing a knife jumped out of a stolen car yesterday and tried to slash his wrists on a Bruckner Expressway overpass, a police source said. Cops responded to a 10:18 a.m. call on the Rosedale Avenue overpass in Soundview and took the man to a local hospital.
QUEENS
A Queens gang member who was wanted on a felony burglary warrant was busted at Boston’s Logan Airport after he tried to slip back into the country for the birth of his child, law-enforcement sources said yesterday. José Vargas, 24, flew in from the Dominican Republic at 10:10 p.m. Saturday and was stopped by U.S. Customs. Agents found out about the warrant – for two burglaries – after a routine computer check. In July 2002, Vargas allegedly broke into a residence on 50th Avenue and made off with approximately $4,000 in cash. Details on burglary I January 2002 were not immediately available. Vargas is awaiting extradition back to New York.
A man was struck in the head with a metal object when he tried to force his way into a Corona social club, a police source said yesterday. The assault took place Sunday around 4:30 a.m. at the club on 111th Street near 39th Avenue. The 33 year-old victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.
A man leaving a wedding reception in Jackson Heights discovered that somebody had broken into his car and stolen his money, a police source said yesterday. The man walked out of Dantes, a catering hall on 75th Street and 31st Avenue, and found the driver’s side window of his car smashed on Sunday. About $60 in cash was missing.
