Gayle’s mother said he called home to say he would be returning to the Queens apartment he shared with his girlfriend although some of his pals said they had plans to go to Manhattan to celebrate when the computer student was gunned down, police and relatives said.

“I knew him to be a good person,” said Gayle’s distraught brother, Kawyain Wilson, 24. “He doesn’t get into fights.”

The two suspects fled and were still at large last night.

Gayle, the father of a 1-year-old boy, was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he died a half-hour later.
