MANHATTAN

* Cops charged 45 protesters demonstrating against a war on Iraq with disorderly conduct yesterday.

The demonstrators marched from 28th Street and Third Avenue to the United Nations, where they allegedly sat down and blocked the front entrance.

* A 4-year-old boy suffered head injuries yesterday when he was struck by a car on the Upper East Side, police said.

The car was heading west on 79th Street at Park Avenue around 1:30 p.m. when it slammed into the boy as he crossed the street with a woman and two other children.

The victim was taken to New York Hospital in serious but stable condition. The driver stopped. No summonses were issued, and no arrests were made.

* Fast-acting cops busted a thief yesterday when he tried to rob an East Harlem bank, police said.

Alan Thomas, 42, allegedly entered the NY National Bank at 2256 Second Ave. around 11:30 a.m. and passed a note demanding money to a teller.

A bank employee then pressed a “panic” button, summoning cops to the scene. Thomas was quickly placed under arrest on robbery charges.

* A man was arrested yesterday for shouting anti-gay insults and pulling a knife on another man in the East Village, police said.

The 20-year-old victim had left the Au-Bon Pain restaurant where he works on East 8th Street around 4 p.m. to go to a nearby store. As he returned to the eatery, he was accosted by Taj Lewis, 25, who allegedly made the insults and displayed the knife before fleeing.

The victim called 911 and provided police with a description of the suspect. Officers form the 9th Precinct nabbed Lewis on the corner of Broadway and Bond Street. Charges are pending. (s, lcf)

* The medical examiner yesterday ruled an accident the death of a man who was struck and killed by a subway train in a Midtown station.

A spokeswoman for the ME said John Alexopolous, 33, died of blunt trauma injuries to the head and torso in last Thursday’s accident.

He lost his balance on a platform in the station at East 53rd Street station and Lexington Avenue, fell head-first onto the tracks and was hit by an E train around 9:30 a.m., police told relatives.

The relatives said he had been on his way to a class where he was studying for a real-estate license.

* Police yesterday identified a 9-month-old boy who died after being found unconscious in his family’s Inwood apartment. The 23-year-old mother of Alexander Castaldo called police to her home on West 207th Street around 9 p.m. Saturday. Cops administered CPR before the baby was taken to the Allen Pavilion of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where he died of natural causes, the medical examiner said. (m)

QUEENS

* A man made off with an undetermined amount of cash from a Long Island City bank yesterday after he handed a teller a note demanding money and she complied, police said.

The robbery occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the Columbia Federal branch at 42-02 Northern Blvd.

BROOKLYN

* A man was shot and wounded yesterday on a Flatlands street. Cops were called to Ralph and Flatlands Avenues around 2:30 p.m., where they discovered the 40-year-old man shot once in the chest. (s, lcf)

He was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition. Police have no suspect and do not know the motive.

* A man was arrested yesterday in the fatal shooting of another man on a Bushwick street, police said. Andrew Jones, 26, was charged with murder for allegedly blasting Kevin Davis, 24, in the head during an argument on Hancock Street on Sunday.

Davis later died at Wyckoff Heights Hospital. Jones also allegedly shot a 24-year-old man twice in the torso. That man was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital in stable condition.

In addition to murder, Jones was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

THE BRONX

* A man in his 20s walked into a South Bronx bank yesterday, slipped a note demanding money to a teller and escaped with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

The robbery occurred about 12:30 p.m. in the Fleet branch at 329 E. 149th St.
