A man died yesterday after being shot several times on a Brownsville street, police said. An assailant approached the 23-year-old man, pulled a gun and shot him in the stomach in front of 715 Macon St. around 4 a.m. The assailant, who’s motive is unknown, fled. The victim, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he died.

Two assailants shot dead one man and wounded two others in East New York, police said yesterday. On Friday night, the gunmen accosted the three victims in front of 55 Bradford St. and shot them in their chests, legs and torsos before fleeing.

The men, ages 24, 25 and 33, were taken to Jamaica and Brookdale hospitals. The 33-year-old died yesterday, and the two other victims were in stable condition.

A letter containing derogatory remarks was sent to an Islamic bookstore in Brooklyn Heights, and cops are investigating it as a possible bias incident. A 64-year-old man received the letter at the Atlantic Avenue bookstore around 3 p.m. Monday. (m)

Bronx

Police yesterday identified a man who died after being stabbed in a Fordham apartment building Friday. Police were called to 444 Cyrus Place around 9:30 a.m. and found George Bonet, 32, in a stairwell, stabbed in the chest, cops said. Bonet was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died. Police are searching for the killer.

A thief entered a Morris Heights bank yesterday, slipped a note demanding money to a teller and escaped with an undetermined amount of cash, police said. The robbery occurred around noon at the North Fork branch at 19 E. Mount Eden Ave.

A 20-year-old man died yesterday after being shot in the head on a South Bronx street, police said. A gunman approached Demetrius White at the corner of 143rd Street and Third Avenue around noon, shot him dead and fled, cops said. The killer’s motive is unknown.

Queens

Two assailants shot a man in the head on a Far Rockaway street before fleeing, police said yesterday. At around 11:30 a.m. Friday, the two gunmen accosted the 20-year-old man on the corner of Beach 14th Street and Heyson Road, shot him and fled. Their motive was not immediately clear. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man died yesterday after being found unconscious in the garage of a Jamaica home, police said. The owner of the apartment discovered the man in his 40s on the floor of the garage at 86-20 144th St. around 9:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the body bore no visible signs of trauma.

Two men swiped approximately $3,000 from two Queens banks in separate incidents Friday, police said yesterday.

In the first robbery, a man walked into a Citibank at 133-07 Rockaway Boulevard around 10:30 a.m. and slipped a teller a note demanding money. He then displayed a firearm in his waistband and said, “Don’t make me use this.” The teller handed over $2,000 and the thief fled. About three hours later, another man entered the Carver Federal Savings bank at 115-2 Merrick Boulevard and told the teller he had a gun after demanding cash. He then fled with $1,000.

Manhattan

A Long Island woman died early yesterday after being struck by a stray bullet fired during a bar fight, police said.

Kelly Gilliam, 21, was shot once in the head about 3:30 a.m., police said. She was pronounced dead at a hospital. Officers said Gilliam was sitting at a table in Lena’s Bar in Riverside when a fight broke out between a group of customers and the bar’s bouncer, Mark Loadholt.

Loadholt, 32, told authorities he fired his gun after one of the customers pulled a gun on him. The customers involved in the fight and about 100 other patrons fled.

The homicide squad is investigating whether more than one weapon was fired. (s, lcf)

A Morningside Heights teacher has been charged with sodomizing a 15-year-old student and posting sexually explicit material on the Internet, police said yesterday. Thomas Higgins, 52, who teaches at Rice HS on West 124th Street, was arrested Friday in connection with the incident. Police said the teenage boy knew the teacher from a previous school, but was not a Rice student. Higgins was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and disseminating indecent material to a minor.
