* Police yesterday were searching for a would-be thief who tried to rob an Upper West Side bank.

The unidentified suspect (above) fled empty-handed after attempting to stick up the Apple Bank branch at Broadway and West 73rd Street at 11 a.m. Monday, cops said.

He is described as in his 20s, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7 and weighing about 140 pounds.

BROOKLYN

* A boozed-up burglar was arrested after he fell asleep in a Coney Island bar and got a wake-up call from police, authorities said yesterday.

The incident began at 8 p.m. Sunday, when the bar owner discovered liquor missing and the jukebox damaged in the saloon on Riegelmann Boardwalk.

After reporting the break-in to police, the owner locked up, but returned the following afternoon to find it burglarized again.

The owner noticed more alcohol missing along with stereo amplifiers and other equipment, sources said.

Cops responded and were assessing damage when Jackie Hodge, 44, came out from a hiding place.

Hodge allegedly told cops he had climbed in through a window and fell asleep after a booze binge, said a spokesman for DA Charles Hynes.

* A man was arrested after he assaulted a security guard who had ejected him from a Flatbush nightclub, authorities said yesterday.

The trouble began at 3 a.m. Monday when the guard was approached by a woman who claimed Raseen Jael, 29, of Metuchen, N.J., tried to fondle her at the club on Nostrand Avenue and Clarendon Road, sources said.

The guard took Jael outside. Jael allegedly became belligerent, threatened to shoot him and punched him in the head.

* A skeleton was found yesterday in a Bay Ridge apartment, police said.

QUEENS

* An uninsured driver was charged with reckless driving after he nearly ran into schoolkids in Astoria, authorities said yesterday.

Razvan Cornea, 27, was speeding in a 2001 BMW along Ditmars Boulevard at 2:20 p.m. Monday when he skidded to a stop at a traffic light after almost crashing into a vehicle at 31st Street, sources said.

Cornea then sped down several streets, nearly hitting the schoolchildren. Police pulled over the BMW and arrested Cornea, said a spokeswoman for DA Richard Brown.

* An unruly teen bicyclist attacked a cop who had instructed him to stop riding his bicycle on a sidewalk in South Ozone Park, authorities said yesterday.

The cop spotted Darren Wilson, 19, pedaling on the sidewalk at 132nd Street and Rockaway Boulevard at 7 p.m. Sunday, sources said.

Wilson allegedly yelled at the officer, picked up the bicycle and hit him with it.

STATEN ISLAND

* Police caught a middle-aged man with three knives as he unlawfully slept in a car in New Dorp, authorities said yesterday.

Cops received a larceny call at 10 p.m. Monday and arrived at the Colonial Service Station on Richmond Avenue.

There they found Robert Oppenheimer, 46, asleep in the passenger seat of a blue four-door sedan, under repair at the service station.

As police cuffed Oppenheimer, they found him in possession of a switchblade and other knives, a spokesman for DA Daniel Donovan said.

* A contractor was arrested after stealing more than $4,000 from a Bloomfield hotel, authorities said yesterday.

From April 2 to Oct. 3, Felix Alvarez, 32, a Hilton Garden Inn contractor, used the hotel’s corporate Discover card to charge $4,200 in hardware from a Lowe’s home-improvement store and another business, sources said.

He then allegedly clipped off the bottom parts of the receipts that showed the credit-card payments.

He handed in the receipts to the hotel for reimbursement, claiming he had paid cash for the tools.

An internal investigation led to Alvarez’s arrest Monday, said Donovan’s spokesman.

* A teenager was arrested for carrying a fake gun after police spotted his friend urinating on a New Brighton street, authorities said yesterday.

Cops approached Orlando Arnold, 17, and his buddy at Winter and Bismark avenues at 12:50 p.m. Monday, sources said.

The officers saw Arnold trying to hide a bulge in his jacket and searched him, finding the bogus pistol. It was unclear if the friend was arrested.

* An employee for the city Department of Transportation was arrested yesterday after he punched his 10-year-old son in the eye in their home, police said.

There are no previous reports of the father, Eusi Pickering, 37, abusing the boy, who suffered minor injuries. Pickering was charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child. (lcf)
