Cops say a would-be thief named Licorish told his victim he likes to “eat people.”
Roy Licorish, 24, confronted the 24-year-old victim in a coin laundry on Linden Boulevard near 196th Street in St. Albans at 5:30 p.m. on March 2, sources said.
He demanded a dollar, but the victim rebuffed him.
That’s when Licorish allegedly said, “You don’t understand. I eat people.”
He shoved the victim to the ground, left the Laundromat and returned moments later with a box cutter.
Licorish then threatened the victim and fled.
Following Licorish’s arrest on Tuesday, he was charged with attempted robbery, menacing and weapon possession, according to a spokeswoman for DA Richard Brown.
A man was arrested for molesting a 5-year-old acquaintance in his Ridgewood home last month, authorities said yesterday.
Galo Vasconez, 44, allegedly attacked the child in his 69th Avenue residence at 10 a.m. on Feb. 23, sources said. The victim later told a family member, who alerted police.
Vasconez was arrested Tuesday on a charge of sexual abuse.
Cops found the body of a man in his 50s or 60s floating in Flushing Bay off College Point just before 11 a.m. yesterday. Police said the body was badly decomposed.
Police yesterday released photos of two men who allegedly assaulted and robbed an Astoria store employee.
The thugs barged into the store on 31st Street near Newtown Avenue at 8:30 p.m. on March 4, cops said.
As one man assaulted the employee, the other ran behind the counter, opened the register and grabbed an unspecified amount of cash. The pair then fled on 31st Street.
The victim was rushed to Astoria General Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Bronx
A 5-week-old girl died after having difficulty breathing in her family’s Longwood apartment, police said yesterday.
Chiara Ayala began having respiratory problems in the Fox Street apartment near East 156th Street at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
The infant was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Cops said that there were no visible signs of violence and that they were awaiting the results of an autopsy.
Brooklyn
A woman was killed on the Belt Park yesterday morning as she tried to cross the busy limited-access highway road. The 48-year-old woman, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was hit near Knapp Street in Sheepshead Bay. The driver stayed at the scene.
A Brownsville man struck a home attendant in the head with a bottle after he grabbed her broom, authorities said yesterday.
Eugene Frazier grabbed the broom as the 28-year-old woman was sweeping in a private house on Thomas S. Boyland Street near Lott Avenue at 11 a.m. Wednesday, sources said.
The woman asked him to release his grip, but Frazier refused and struck her.
Frazier, 28, then allegedly bashed her in the head with a beer bottle and fled.
The victim, who suffered minor injuries, told cops Frazier was wearing only boxer shorts and flip-flops.
He was caught nearby and charged with assault.
Cops are asking for the public’s help in finding Betsy Bohorquez , 14, left her house at 199 30th street in Sunset Park at 7:00 a.m. on Monday for school and never returned home. A source said that the girl has a history of running away.
Two armed men were arrested in connection with an assault in Mill Basin, authorities said yesterday.
Glen Wilson, 29, had hired Carlos Garcia, 33, to do unspecified work at his East 65th Street home at Avenue N, sources said.
Wilson paid Garcia for some of the work but was dissatisfied and asked him to complete the job, sources said.
An argument erupted, and Wilson told cops that Garcia threatened him with a box cutter at 4:13 p.m. Wednesday.
Garcia claimed Wilson clubbed him in the head, inflicting a cut that required stitches.
After their arrest, Garcia was charged with menacing and Wilson was slapped with an assault rap.
Staten Island
A cop on patrol in a New Brighton apartment building nabbed two men involved in a drug deal, authorities said yesterday.
The officer spotted Michael Perry, 28, slipping crack cocaine to Kelly Phelan, 33, in exchange for cash inside the Richmond Terrace building near Jersey Street at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, sources said.
The cop chased Perry into a nearby apartment and arrested him on drug charges, police said.
Phelan was busted on the same charge, said a spokesman for DA Daniel Donovan.
A former St. John’s University student was arrested after using her sister’s name to apply for a $7,800 student loan, authorities said yesterday.
Michelle Zecca, 20, went online and submitted a grad-school loan application to a Citibank branch on Hylan Boulevard and Delaware Avenue on Aug. 29, 2004, cops said.
Zecca used her sister’s name as a co-signer without her permission, police said.
It was unclear how cops tracked her down or why it took so long, but Zecca was busted Wednesday on an identity-theft charge.
An unlicensed driver was captured in West Brighton after police spotted him running a red light in a stolen car, authorities said yesterday.
Michael Aza-Molina, 20, barreled through the light at Victory Boulevard and Clove Road at 10 p.m. Sunday, sources said. When cops stopped the vehicle they found an iPod and keys belonging to the owner of the car.
Aza-Molina was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and unlicensed driving.
