A drunken driver in a stolen SUV led police on a high-speed chase on the Upper East Side, ending when he crashed into an Italian restaurant, cops said.
Police spotted Alex Rivera, 32, of Georgia, switching lanes unsafely in the Chevrolet Tahoe Friday, sources said.
Rivera suddenly stopped in the middle of a street and, as a cop approached, sped away, the DA’s Office said.
Cops chased him for about 10 blocks to East 50th Street and Second Avenue, where the vehicle mounted a sidewalk and slammed into the outdoor seating area of Lasagna restaurant, nearly hitting one diner.
Miraculously no one was hurt, but damage totaled $1,500.
Sources said Rivera, who refused to take an alcohol test, was hit with various charges.
A convicted sex offender was arrested for fatally bludgeoning a former gay lover in a Murray Hill apartment, authorities said yesterday.
The bust came after cops matched saliva left on a beverage can to the suspect’s DNA profile, authorities said yesterday.
Nick Sorrentino, 61, of Paterson, N.J., was busted on July 10 and held without bail following his arraignment on a murder charge, the DA’s Office said.

Sorrentino is accused of repeatedly smashing José Raul Prieto, 70, in the head with a fire extinguisher and then strangling him in his apartment on East 35th Street.
Prieto’s body was discovered on May 16 by his brother, who became concerned after he wasn’t able to get in touch.
According to the New Jersey State Police sex-offender Web site, Sorrentino once sexually assaulted a 3-year-old female relative.
Three thugs were arrested for attacking a man on a Flatiron District street after the victim left Club Avalon on West 20th Street, police sources said yesterday.
The suspects, Carrington Black, 20, Kirwan Jahman, 18, and Darrell Wright, 21, argued with the 25-year-old man on Sixth Avenue and West 22nd Street at about 4:45 a.m. Saturday, sources said.
The three then allegedly pummeled the victim with their fists and Black smashed his ear with a bottle.
The victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
A Bronx man attempted to rape his girlfriend’s daughter in an East Harlem apartment after the three returned from a night of clubbing, authorities said yesterday.
Dennis Watson, 31, of Kingsbridge, his girlfriend and her daughter, 21, continued drinking in the women’s Lexington Avenue apartment at East 121st Street during the early-morning hours last Saturday, sources said.
Watson’s girlfriend then left to go to a store and her daughter went to sleep.
Minutes later, Watson, half-naked, allegedly stripped the victim from the waist down, kissed her and fondled her breasts. While fending him off she managed to reach a phone and call 911.
Watson was arrested on charges of attempted rape and sexual abuse, the DA’s Office said.
Two burglars were busted for swiping $15,000 worth of textbooks from the Queens College bookstore, authorities said yesterday.
Johnny Lopez, 20, and Miguel Paredes, 26, were caught on video selling back more than $400 worth of the stolen textbooks to the campus store on Kissena Boulevard last Wednesday, sources said.
After a store manager reviewed the tape and alerted police, the two were apprehended and charged with criminal possession of stolen property, a spokeswoman for DA Richard Brown said.
The video also allegedly showed an unidentified accomplice stealing more than 100 textbooks from the store on June 29. He is being sought.
A crowbar-wielding assailant was arrested for threatening to kill three boys on a Holliswood street, authorities said yesterday.
Roy Sipel, 21, allegedly menaced the victims, ages 11, 12, and 14, on Dunton Avenue near Dunton Streetat around 5 p.m. Saturday.
Then he allegedly spewed, “I’m going to f-ing kill you.”
Police busted Sipel, who was charged with menacing, child endangerment and weapons possession, a DA spokeswoman said.
Police arrested a thief who swiped a laptop computer from a woman at gunpoint in front of her year-old son in their East Elmhurst home, authorities said yesterday.
Johanny Gomez, 19, allegedly brandished the weapon as he broke into the residence at 83rd Street and 25th Avenue at 9 p.m. on July 8. He demanded cash and the computer from the 25-year-old woman, sources said.
The woman later picked Gomez out of a photo array and the Queens Warrant Squad arrested him Monday. He was charged with robbery and burglary.

A Williamsburg woman was arrested for seriously injuring her mother with eyeglasses during an argument over cleaning their apartment, authorities said yesterday.
Yasmin Silva, 25, clashed with her mom, 57, in their Ten Eyck Walk residence at 3:20 a.m. on May 2, sources said.
Silva allegedly tried to strike the victim, who defended herself by biting her daughter’s finger.
Silva then grabbed her mother’s glasses and jammed them into her ear, causing cuts and hearing loss, sources said.
The victim called 911 but by the time cops arrived Silva was gone. She surrendered Monday and was charged with assault. Jamie Schram
