Cops today were hunting for two thieves who fled from the roof of a Sheepshead Bay store early yesterday in a failed bid to rob a bank. The men, both in their 20s, were spotted shortly before 1 a.m. fleeing from the roof of a Voorhies Avenue cell-phone store. A follow-up investigation revealed that the duo had gotten into the store and had been trying to break through a wall to enter the neighboring branch of Astoria Federal Savings Bank. When they were unable to bust into the bank, they went back up to the roof and fled. No property was taken in the attempted heist.

A 38-year-old Harlem woman with a history of psychiatric problems was found dead in front of her building after she apparently jumped from her third-floor apartment window. The woman, who lived on 124th Street, was found lying in front of her building at 2:18 a.m., police said. Sources termed the death a likely suicide, although the medical examiner’s office had yet to rule on the cause of death.

A Coast Guardsman who was arrested for allegedly assaulting another man inside a Port Authority Bus Terminal bathroom Saturday afternoon in an anti-gay attack has been released from custody. The 22-year-old serviceman was picked up after an attack on a 37-year-old man who claimed two men accosted him inside the bathroom. One of the men began hurling anti-gay epithets before punching him in the face, cops said. The victim was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital for minor injuries before being released. The Coast Guardsman was picked up by PA cops inside the terminal shortly after the attack but was released when the victim failed to identify him as his assailant, sources said. The case remains open.
