A bat-wielding maniac attacked a woman in a homeless shelter on the Upper East Side, authorities said yesterday.
Jeffrey Andrews, 27, was brandishing the baseball bat when he encountered the 52-year-old victim in a stairway of the shelter where they live on First Avenue near East 86th Street at 10:30 p.m. Monday, sources said.
For unknown reasons, Andrews allegedly swung the bat at the woman’s head, but she ducked he smacked a hole in a cement wall.
The victim called 911 and police arrested Andrews, who was charged with attempted assault, criminal mischief and menacing, said a spokeswoman for the DA’s Office.
Cops busted a janitor who swiped nearly $20,000 from a West Side bank where he worked, police sources said yesterday.
Ronald McPhail, 52, allegedly swiped 37 envelopes containing $19,675 in Washington Mutual branch at Broadway and West 32nd Street at 10:32 p.m. on July 30.
McPhail was busted Monday and charged with grand larceny, but it was unclear how police tied him to the theft.
Staten Island
A police officer initially thought a driver he pulled over was hiding a gun in the crotch of his pants, but the motorist was concealing a sack of marijuana, authorities said yesterday.
Russell Barber, 28, was driving at Trantor Place and Walker Street in Port Richmond at 10 p.m. Wednesday when he was pulled over for excessive window tint, cops said.
The officer noticed a large bulge in his crotch and suspected it was a firearm.
He told Barber to get of the car and asked what he was hiding.
Barber said that it was “weed,” and pulled out a large bag of marijuana, sources said.
A spokesman for DA Daniel Donovan said Barber was charged with marijuana possession.
A drunken driver was arrested after he crashed into a parked car in Great Kills, authorities said yesterday.
Michael Kramaroff, 24, was driving a 1993 Subaru at Cleveland Avenue and Melrose Place at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday when the collision took place, sources said.
Kramaroff allegedly sped off while a witness pursued him and called cops.
Police pulled over Kramaroff, smelled booze, and later administered a Breathalyzer.
The test revealed that his alcohol level was .165, more than double the legal limit, the sources said.
Kramaroff was charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police arrested a thief who beat a man at the St. George ferry terminal, authorities said yesterday.
Darryl Butler, 36, argued with the victim outside the terminal at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, sources said.
Butler grabbed $16 from the victim and sprayed him in the face with Mace.
He then allegedly pummeled the victim and knocked him to the ground.
Police arrested Butler, who was slapped with assault and robbery charges.
The Bronx
Police yesterday were searching for a teenager who disappeared in Co-op City.
Robert Palmer, 18, who has poor verbal skills and the mental capacity of a child, was last seen on Dekruif Place near Dreiser Loop at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
He stands 5-foot-7 and weighs 121 pounds, and has brown eyes and black hair.
He was wearing an orange long sleeve shirt and tan pants.
A man fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend and then jumped to his death from the fifth-floor window of his Mount Hope apartment early yesterday, police sources said.
Lander Jones, 26, allegedly brandished a knife and approached Mabelyn Ariola, 18, in his apartment at 325 E. 176th St. at 12:30 a.m., police said.
Jones stabbed Ariola repeatedly in the neck and back, then jumped from a window, cops said.
Ariola was pronounced dead at the scene. Jones was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died.
Brooklyn
A teenager viciously attacked a middle-aged man in Flatbush, authorities said yesterday.
The confrontation began at 6 p.m. on July 31, when Christopher Sanders, 17, allegedly came to visit a friend in the apartment building at East 18th Street and Tennis Court, where the 52-year-old victim lives, sources said.
There, the victim told Sanders that the friend was not coming out and to leave, prompting Sanders to spit in the victim’s face, sources said.
The victim called 91l and reported the incident.
Shortly thereafter, Sanders allegedly kicked the victim in the groin, struck him in the head and slashed him in the face.
Police tracked down Sanders Wednesday. He was charged with assault.
A woman stabbed her mother with a pocketknife in a booze-fueled argument in the victim’s Fort Greene apartment, authorities said yesterday.
Andrea Hollingsworth, 26, allegedly clashed with her mom in the Cumberland Walk apartment at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday.
Hollingsworth allegedly stabbed the victim in the forearm, and the injured woman called 911.
Cops saw Hollingsworth fleeing and quickly arrested her after a brief struggle, police said.
Hollingsworth was charged with assault, menacing and resisting arrest.
The victim was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, but declined medical attention.
