Manhattan A thief who swiped shoes from an Upper East Side store was captured as he tried to make his getaway on a bus, authorities said yesterday.
Raymond Moore, 53, allegedly stole three bags containing $1,154 in footwear from the Cole Haan boutique on Madison Avenue and East 60th Street at about 5:50 p.m. Sunday.
A witness called cops as Moore dashed out of the store and hopped on a bus, sources said.
Police stopped the bus three blocks away and grabbed Moore, who was charged with grand larceny, said a spokesman for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
A knife-wielding thug allegedly raped a woman while holding her captive for more than five hours in his Inwood apartment, authorities said yesterday.
Between 2 a.m. and 7:44 a.m. on Aug. 10, Justo Mota, 30, allegedly terrorized the 23-year-old woman in his Sherman Avenue apartment.
Mota threatened her with a knife and sexually attacked her, sources said. Mota was charged with unlawful imprisonment, rape and weapon possession.
Two burglars were arrested for swiping clothes from an Upper East Side store, authorities said yesterday.
Willie Harris, 38, and Taylor Chauncey, 46, allegedly used tools to break into Lingerie on Lex at Lexington Avenue near East 63rd Street at about 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 10.
After swiping more than $1,000 in garments, the two fled but were caught nearby and charged with grand larceny.
Staten Island A thief allegedly stole $8,700 from his deceased grandfather by forging the dead man’s name on several checks and making withdrawals at two Staten Island banks, authorities said yesterday.
Between April 21 and July 16, Joseph Igneri, 26, allegedly forged his grandfather’s signature on 10 checks and withdrew money from the old man’s accounts, which are monitored by an executor of the estate.
Igneri was arrested Monday on charges of forgery, possession of a forged instruments and grand larceny, said a spokesman for DA Daniel Donovan.
Brooklyn Police are trying to find a Sunset Park man who disappeared from Maimonides Hospital.
Juan-Carlos NuÑez, 31 , who suffers from poor mental health, was last seen visiting a sick relative at medical facility at 4802 10th Ave. at 4 p.m. on Aug. 5.
NuÑez is 5-foot-7 and between 140 and 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
An unlicensed drunken driver was arrested after severely injuring two people in a hit-and-run accident in Red Hook, authorities said yesterday.
Vernon Hodelin, 32, was behind the wheel of a 2004 Lexus on Hicks Street at Lorraine Avenue at about 10 p.m. Saturday when he allegedly ran a stop sign and struck a Ford Taurus, which careened into a 56-year-old pedestrian.
The driver of the Ford, a 65-year-old man, and the female pedestrian were severely injured.
Hodelin sped away, but police pulled him over and smelled booze on him, sources said.
Police ran a check and learned that Hodelin’s license was revoked.
He was charged with vehicular assault, DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting.
The injured man suffered a fractured pelvis and a brain hemorrhage.
The pedestrian sustained severe head, neck, back and leg injuries.
An off-duty city firefighter was busted early yesterday for assaulting his wife in a Gerritsen Beach residence, police said.
Alexander McLoughlin, 31, exchanged angry words with his 39-year-old wife in the Celeste Court home at 7 p.m. Monday, cops said.
Police said McLoughlin forcefully grabbed the victim’s hand, bruising it.
McLoughlin was charged with assault and harassment.
An elderly man was struck and killed by an SUV at an East New York intersection yesterday while trying to crossing the street.
Esteban Cuevas, 71, was crossing against the light on Pennsylvania Avenue near Fulton Street at 2:30 p.m. when he was hit by a 2003 Chevy Tahoe.
The driver stayed at the scene and was not charged.
Queens A homeless man was arrested yesterday after attempting to sell drugs on a Richmond Hill street, sources said.
Boj Taray, 32, allegedly approached a person on Jamaica Avenue and 126th Street and offered drugs, authorities said.
The person refused and flagged down a passing police car.
When the cops approached, Taray allegedly dropped a bag that apparently contained cocaine.
He was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
A Maspeth man was charged with drunken driving after crashing his SUV into a vehicle just blocks from his home, sources said yesterday.
Brian O’Neill, 24, was driving his Ford Explorer at 10:15 p.m. Sunday when he rear-ended a car at a red light on 69th Street and 54th Avenue, cops said.
O’Neill was administered a Breathalyzer test, and blew over three times the legal limit, cops said.
A man was arrested yesterday for possessing a fake driver’s license at a Department of Motor Vehicles branch in Queens, officials said.
Clyde Thompson, 53, tried to obtain a New York state license at the DMV office just after 2 p.m., cops said.
When he was asked for identification, Thompson allegedly handed a bogus Guam driver’s license to a DMV worker.
Thompson was charged with possession of forged instrument.
