A ‘hair’-brained thief swiped a pineapple and grapes from an Upper East Side grocery, then stole a knitted hat off a woman’s head to disguise himself as he tried to flee, police sources said yesterday.
Cops quickly caught the bone-headed bandit, they said.
Ronald York, 46, of Harlem walked into the fruit store on Lexington Avenue at East 96th Street at 4:50 p.m. on Jan. 7 and was seen grabbing the fruit by a worker, the sources said.
The employee stopped York as he allegedly tried to leave without paying.
York then produced a champagne bottle and swung it at the worker but missed, cops said.
As York ran away, he allegedly discarded the stolen fruit and snatched the hat from a woman who was passing by.
But responding cops quickly nabbed him on Park Avenue at 95th Street.
He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, weapon possession and menacing.

A drug suspect was arrested after he brutally beat a man on the Upper West Side and police found crack cocaine in his home, authorities said yesterday.
Cornell Neilly, 17, argued with the 26-year-old man on West End Avenue at 64th Street at 7:20 p.m. on Jan. 8, cops said.
It was unclear what sparked the dispute, but Neilly allegedly broke the victim’s left arm with a bat.
Police later executed a search warrant at Neilly’s apartment and found a quantity of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, they said.
He was charged with assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Three thieves were busted for beating a man and swiping his iPhone in a Midtown fast-food restaurant last month, police sources said yesterday.
Larry Nicholson, 19, Ashraf Aboawad, 19, and Keifer Howell, 18, robbed the 34-year-old man in a Wendy’s on Third Avenue at East 57th Street at 4 p.m. on Dec. 7, cops said.
They also allegedly pummeled the man.
Police arrested the three, who were charged with robbery.
The victim suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
Brooklyn
A man was found tied up and beaten to death in his Brownsville apartment early yesterday, police said.
A relative found Glenroy Smith, 49, on the floor with bound hands and feet at 592 Thomas S. Boyland Street shortly before 9 a.m., according to neighbor Glen Ford.
“The house was ransacked. Everything was turned upside down,” Ford said.
Smith had suffered blunt trauma to his torso and head, police said.

A thug wearing brass knuckles brutally beat a worker who had confronted him for refusing to pay for a car wash in Downtown Brooklyn, authorities said yesterday.
Jalil Holliman, 31, put his girlfriend’s 2007 Nissan Pathfinder through the Manhattan Bridge Car Wash on Flatbush Avenue Extension and Willoughby Street at about 8:10 p.m. on Jan. 8, cops said.
When he allegedly declined to pay, the worker, 42, started arguing with Holliman, who then left, sources said.
A half-hour later, Holliman returned with brass knuckles and allegedly socked the worker in the face, breaking his nose.
Two days later, detectives tracked down Holliman and he was charged with assault.

A woman allegedly got back at her cheating boyfriend by pummeling his lover and trying to run her over with a car in Midwood.
Lakisha Young, 29, followed her boyfriend to Kings Highway and East 27th Street, where he picked up his 32-year-old girlfriend at 6 a.m. on Dec. 19, cops said.
Young allegedly stepped out of her Nissan Sentra and repeatedly punched the other woman in the face and body.
The suspect got back into her car, sped toward the victim and clipped her, inflicting minor injuries, cops said.
Young then stopped, got out again, swiped the victim’s purse and drove away, according to police.
She turned herself in last Thursday and was charged with assault, petit larceny and menacing.
Queens
A man was arrested after he was caught breaking into a Whitestone home, authorities said yesterday.
The homeowner called police after finding Anthony Manco inside his home on 16th Avenue Tuesday holding a black bag, cops said.
Manco, 23, was later caught with a several stolen items, including a Rolex watch, DVD player, rosary beads and a checkbook, police said.
He was charged with burglary, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief, according to a spokesman for District Attorney Richard Brown.

A man was arrested for attacking an acquaintance in Astoria, authorities said yesterday.
Nicholas Vetrano, 42, and two other suspects confronted the victim at 23rd Avenue and 27th Street shortly before 1 a.m. Christmas Day.
Vetrano pushed the 40-year-old man, then repeatedly hit him with an unidentified object, according to cops.
The victim suffered a fractured skull and received over 100 stitches.
Vetrano, who also lives in Astoria, was charged with assault. The other suspects have not yet been apprehended.
Staten Island
A young man was clinging to life yesterday after he crashed his BMW into a utility pole in Rossville, police said.
The 21-year-old, whose name was withheld, was driving east on Arthur Kill Road and made a left turn onto the service road of the West Shore Expressway, where he hit a pole in the median shortly after 4 a.m., police said.
He was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North in critical condition.
