A man was shot dead on a Brownsville street early yesterday, police said.

The 27-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was shot in the head on East 98th Street near Legion Street at 4:39 a.m., cops said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

THE BRONX

Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a Claremont apartment.

The 37-year-old man, whose name was not released, was discovered in an apartment on Clay Avenue near East 169th Street at noon Friday, cops said.

Police found the corpse after someone phoned about a possible body in the home.

QUEENS

A Jackson Heights man was busted after he claimed a lost wallet was his and used a credit card from it, authorities said yesterday.

Albert Dispinseri, 48, allegedly took a wallet left behind by a 56-year-old Brooklyn man in a Best Buy at Northern Boulevard and 50th Street at 11 a.m. on Dec. 2.

Thirty minutes later, Dispinseri used one of the credit cards from the wallet to buy $150 worth of goods from a nearby Modell’s, authorities said.

Cops tracked the activity on the card, and police caught the suspect Tuesday.

He was charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, according to a spokesman for DA Richard Brown.

A boozed-up motorist celebrating the Chinese New Year was collared for running a stop sign and almost plowing into a police car in Elmhurst, authorities said yesterday.

Hua Lu, 45, was behind the wheel of a 2003 Lincoln Town Car when he allegedly blew a stop sign on 92nd Street and 54th Avenue at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

When a cop pulled him over a block away, Hua told the officer he had had a couple of beers to celebrate the Chinese New Year, authorities said.

A Breathalyzer test revealed Hua’s blood-alcohol content to be .113, and DMV records indicated his license had been suspended six days earlier, law-enforcement sources said.

He was charged with DWI, aggravated unlicensed driving and running a stop sign, said a Brown spokesman.

A man was arrested for stealing four leather jackets from an Elmhurst department store, authorities said yesterday.

Jeffery White, 39, allegedly walked into a fitting room at JC Penney at 59th Avenue with four leather jackets last Wednesday.

Moments later, he left the store wearing all of them, authorities said.

He was caught on surveillance tape, and a security guard ran after him and recovered three jackets.

White was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, according to a Brown spokesman.

STATEN ISLAND

A teenager was arrested after he was caught using an altered MetroCard in St. George, authorities said yesterday.

Michael Geretano, 18, allegedly combined a student MetroCard with a standard card in order to disguise it and access the free fares allowed to students.

A police officer near the turnstiles at the Staten Island Railway station noticed the card.

Geretano was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument and theft of service, a spokesman for DA Daniel Donovan said.

An Arlington man was nabbed after cops spotted him in possession of drugs, law-enforcement sources said yesterday.

Darnell Jackson, 23, was collared at Arlington Place and Grandview Avenue at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, the sources said.

Jackson allegedly had five bags of crack and later showed cops where they could find a loaded .22-caliber Ruger handgun in his back yard.

He was charged with weapon and drug possession, according to a Donovan spokesman.
