Staten Island
Four relatives and an accomplice were busted after they robbed and beat a livery driver at knifepoint in Tompkinsville,
authorities said yesterday.
Santiago Zapoteco, 18, Noa Zapoteco, 17, Marcelino Zapoteco, 17, Moises Zapoteco, 27, and Franco Pedro, 25, accosted the driver at Victory Boulevard and Monroe Avenue after Santiago arranged for the victim to drop him off there at 3 a.m. Monday, police said.
Santiago pulled a knife while his accomplices came by and assaulted the driver, swiped money and a cellphone and fled.
They were soon captured in a police sweep, said a spokesman for DA Daniel Donovan.
Manhattan
A Bar Mitzvah party-goer was busted for swiping a purse at an Upper East Side synagogue, cops said yesterday.
Shah Piyush, 29, grabbed the purse from a table in the Park East Synagogue on 68th Street near Lexington Avenue at 1:10 p.m. on March 6, cops said.
He left with the purse, but when he returned for his coat, sunglasses and hat, the synagogue’s security director recognized him after reviewing surveillance video showing him committing the crime, authorities said.
Piyush was busted Saturday on charges of burglary and grand larceny, said a spokesman for DA Cyrus Vance Jr.

A scammer was busted for stealing thousands of dollars from would-be apartment renters in West Harlem, authorities said yesterday.
Last month, Paul Budden, 45, posted a Craigslist ad for an apartment at Seventh Avenue and 145th Street, sources said.
Three victims answered the ads and met with Budden, who represented himself as a management agent and showed them an apartment, authorities said.
The victims put down deposits and signed rental contracts with purported move-in dates, cops said.
But they were never given access to the apartment, and Budden didn’t return their phone calls, the sources said.
The victims filed police reports and identified Budden, who was arrested last Thursday and charged with grand larceny.
Brooklyn
Cops arrested a sidewalk swashbuckler in Downtown Brooklyn who had threatened a grocery worker with a sword, authorities said yesterday.
William Lausell, 45 walked past a gourmet grocery store on Bond Street near State Street Monday at 3:20 p.m. while the owner’s 21-year-old son was moving groceries into the basement, cops said.
Lausell walked over and blocked the path of the man, police said.
When Lausell was asked to move, he pulled a 16-inch sword, menaced the guy and then fled, with the victim’s father following while dialing 911, sources said.
Lausell later told cops he was on his way to sell the blade, and had waved it because he feared he was about to get jumped, sources said.
He was charged with menacing and harassment, said a spokesman for DA Charles Hynes.

A thief was arrested for swiping $5,000 in electronics from a Dyker Heights health-care provider, authorities said yesterday.
Sometime between 7 p.m. on March 26 and 11 p.m. on March 28, Daniel Steinmetz, 44, allegedly broke through a door at Staff Blue on 65th Street near 14th Avenue.
He swiped two laptop computers and a security camera, but video from another camera recorded him entering the building, police said. He was arrested Monday on charges of burglary and criminal mischief.

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old man in Bedford-Stuyvesant, authorities said yesterday.
Dennis Jordan was found shot at 166 Hull St. at 3:55 p.m. Monday, police said. He was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.
Bronx
A Melrose resident was busted for allegedly sexually abusing his 16-year-old stepdaughter over a two-year period, cops said yesterday.
In August 2006, the man, now 33, began late-night visits to the girl’s room, cops said.
He forcibly touched the girl and repeatedly expressed “affection” for her, according to court papers.
The abuse appears to have ended in 2008, but it was only when an Administration for Children’s Services worker contacted police during visit to the apartment Friday that the abuser was arrested, sources said.
He was charged with sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, authorities said. His name was withheld to shield the identity of the victim.
