QUEENS
* A 21-year-old man was fatally stabbed early yesterday in a Corona bar, police said.
Adolpho Candia got into an argument with at least three unidentified men in La Puerta Negro bar on Northern Boulevard near 104th Street at around 3 a.m., and then went to the bathroom.
When he came out, the gang jumped him and stabbed him several times before fleeing. Candia staggered outside the bar and collapsed on the sidewalk. He was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital, where he died.
Police later arrested three suspects on first-degree assault charges: Marcellino Lopez, 22, Alejandro Maranto, 19, and Marino Garcia, 22, all of Corona.
* A daring band of thieves cut through the roof of an Auburndale bank and broke into at least 45 safety-deposit boxes, escaping with an undetermined amount of cash and valuables, police sources said yesterday.
The heist, at the Atlantic Bank at 196-21 Northern Blvd., was discovered by the bank manager at 8:30 a.m. when the branch opened, police said. (s, lcf)
* Police are seeking a motorist who shot a man last night in Laurelton during a bizarre “road rage” incident.
The violence unfolded at 7:55 p.m., when a man in a 1997 gray Nissan Maxima sped along 220th Street. A 28-year-old man, who was cleaning his car, began yelling at the motorist for driving too fast, a police source said. The motorist stopped, pulled out a gun and fired a shot before driving off.
The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was hit in the leg and taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition. Police are looking for the gunman and put out a bulletin on his vehicle, with New York license plate BTB-5408. (lcf)
* A man was arrested yesterday on arson charges after he tried to burn down a psychiatric center where he once was a patient, police sources said.
The incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. when a motorist flagged down a passing police car and pointed out Maxwell Matthews, 47, who allegedly ignited a flammable liquid on the premises of Venture House, a city- and state-funded residential treatment center at 150-10 Hillside Avenue in Jamaica.
The blaze was extinguished without any injuries or major property damage.
* An East Elmhurst man died in the hospital after a fight with his roommate, police said yesterday.
On July 16, Oscar Herrera, 53, got into an argument with Hector Castillo, 51 in an apartment on Ditmars Boulevard near 100th Street.
Sources said Castillo gouged Herrera’s eyes with his fingernails while Herrera pushed Castillo to the ground, injuring his shoulder. Police arrested the pair on assault charges.
Herrera suffered severe eye injuries and was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital, where he died Sunday of cardiac arrest.
THE BRONX
* A 41-year-old man was shot dead early yesterday during an argument on a Mott Haven street, police said.
Alberto Maldonado was shot in the chest and back by an unidentified man who pulled a gun and opened fire on East 141st Street and Rider Avenue at around 3:30 a.m.
The victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he died. The killer fled.
* A Bronx detective was arrested on DWI charges after an argument with his girlfriend at her Fordham home, police said yesterday.
Courtland Spruils, who was suspended from the force, was sitting in his parked vehicle with the engine running and his keys in the ignition outside his girlfriend’s home at around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Police were called to the scene and placed him under arrest.
* Two summer-school students were slashed and beaten just after noon yesterday when they got into a brawl with three unidentified men outside Jerome Park in Kingsbridge Heights, police said.
One of the victims was hit on the head with a blunt object and suffered a puncture wound to his stomach. The other was slashed on his arm. Both victims were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition. The attackers fled.
BROOKLYN
* A 29-year-old man was arrested yesterday for raping a woman in a Sunset Park parking lot, police said.
Reuben Mote allegedly accosted the 22-year-old woman as she was strolling on 65th Street at Third Avenue at around 5:30 a.m.
He then forced her into a parking lot and raped her before fleeing, cops said. Police were called to the scene and arrested Mote on rape charges during a search of the area. The victim was taken to Lutheran Hospital in stable condition.
* A month-old boy died yesterday after he was found unconscious in his family’s Coney Island home, police said.
The boy was discovered in his crib by his parents in their home on Wwest 28th Street near Mermaid Avenue at around 8:20 a.m. and was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he died.
Police said his body bore no visible signs of trauma. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. (m)
STATEN ISLAND
* A 19-year-old man was arrested after he hit two other men with a metal object on a Woodrow street, authorities said yesterday.
Thomas Kartelias smashed one man on the back of the head and another in the face on Sinclair Avenue near Lenevar Avenue at around 3 a.m. Sunday, cops said.
Sources said one victim lost some of his teeth. He was taken to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was treated for lacerations to his face and lip. The other victim was taken to the same hospital, where he received 17 stitches.
Kartelias was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Cops did not know the motive.
* A man and woman were busted in Elm Park after cops pulled them over and found marijuana, cocaine and crack in their car, authorities said yesterday.
Guy Sagistano, 34, and Dawn Holroyd, 32, were in a 1991 Lexus on the southbound Martin Luther King Expressway service road near Forest Avenue at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday when police stopped them for an undisclosed traffic violation.
Cops said they spotted cocaine in Sagistano’s lap and found crack cocaine under the front passenger seat during a search. They also allegedly found marijuana in Holroyd’s pocketbook.
