MANHATTAN
* An East Village man hit his wife in the head before apparently stabbing himself and plunging five floors from an apartment yesterday, police said.
Patrick Nelson, 34, woke up his wife, 35, struck her with a metal object and tried to choke her in the their residence on East Ninth Street near Avenue C around 1 a.m. Tuesday.
The two struggled, and his wife managed to flee and call police.
Nelson apparently stabbed himself in the chest and wrists with a kitchen knife and fell from a fifth-floor fire escape.
He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
He was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
His wife, whose name was withheld, was also taken to Bellevue, where she was listed in serious condition.
* The Medical Examiner’s Office yesterday ruled a homicide the death of a Queens man who suffered a heart attack after being robbed in East Harlem.
Police sources said Ivan Urrego, 45, was accosted by an unidentified man in his 50s on a stairwell in a housing complex at 1595 Madison Ave. on Sept. 10. The unarmed thief strong-armed Urrego to the back of the building and took his money before fleeing.
Later, Urrego experienced chest pains in his friend’s Manhattan apartment and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died.
* An unidentified man walked into a Turtle Bay bank yesterday, slipped a note to a teller demanding money, and fled with cash, police said.
The robbery took place at the Greenpoint Bank on Third Avenue near 60th Street around 1 p.m.
STATEN ISLAND
* Three teenage girls have been arrested for beating a woman and swiping her backpack on a city bus in Livingston, authorities said yesterday.
The youths, ages 14 and 15, allegedly accosted their victim on an S46 Bus at the corner of Taylor Street and Castleton Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Monday and punched her several times.
One of them then snatched the backpack, which contained books.
The victim suffered bruises, swelling and scratches to her face, arms and legs.
The suspects, whose names were withheld because of their age, were charged with robbery, grand larceny and assault.
* Two Staten Island men have been arrested for spewing anti-gay remarks at a 31-year-old man on a Tompkinsville street, police said yesterday.
James Lee and Sheazon Stuart, both 19, accosted the man as he was walking to a store on Bay Street and Victory Boulevard around 10 p.m. Monday.
They made the derogatory comments and then chased the victim, who was able to flag down police. The suspects were charged with aggravated harassment.
QUEENS
* The fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man on a South Jamaica street early this month was an apparent retaliation attack, authorities said yesterday.
Shahada Bey was shot three times and killed on Guy Brewer Boulevard at 109th Avenue around 10 p.m. on Sept. 1, when Anthony Houston, also 26, drew a gun and opened fire, cops said.
Sources said Bey had shot Houston’s brother on the same corner two years ago.
Bey was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital, where he died.
Cops received anonymous tips that led them to North Carolina, where they arrested Houston and charged him with murder.
BROOKLYN
* A 21-year-old man found with bruises on his body on a Bushwick street was murdered, the Medical Examiner’s Office said yesterday.
Gonzalo Rodriguez, who police say was intoxicated, was discovered with bruises to his head and neck on Myrtle Avenue near Linden Street around 4 a.m. on Sept. 13.
Rodriguez was taken unconscious to Wyckoff Heights Hospital, where he died.
