NYPD DAILY BLOTTER
THE BRONX
* Two teens led a pair of detectives on a car and foot chase through the streets of Longwood, law-enforcement sources said yesterday.
The two plainclothes cops were riding in an unmarked car north on Union Avenue at 3 p.m. when they spotted a 1993 Mazda Protégé with defective tail light and decided to stop it.
The Mazda began to pull over at the corner of Union Avenue and East 158th Street, but then sped up Union, law-enforcement sources said.
The detectives, assigned to the 40th Precinct, followed the vehicle until it got stuck in traffic. That forced the two teens in the car to jump out and run.
One of the cops caught up with the Mazda’s driver, Hector Vega, 16, about five blocks away, but lost the other teen in a building.
Police received an anonymous tip about two hours later that led them to 720 Westchester Ave., the home of Saustow Gonzalez, 18.
The teens were charged with reckless endangerment and reckless driving. Police were looking into whether the Mazda was stolen.
