*** The discovery of an inert grenade inside a Sheepshead Bay apartment yesterday sparked some uneasy moments for residents and cops.
At about 3 p.m., a man cleaning out the closet of his recently deceased grandfather’s fifth-floor apartment on Quentin Road found the grenade, the sources said.
The man called police, sparking an evacuation of tenants as well as a call for the Emergency Service Unit and bomb squad.
Cops would not say what they did with the device.
*** 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted, robbed and stabbed near Sunset Park yesterday morning, police said.
The victim was accosted by a man who stole her cash before sodomizing and stabbing her around 6:30 a.m.
The victim was taken to Lutheran Hospital in stable condition.
*** A 25-year-old man was shot and killed in East New York early yesterday, police said.
The victim, whose name was not released, was discovered lying on the ground near a parking garage at 855 Louisiana Ave. at 3 a.m., police said.
He had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was declared dead at the scene.
Detectives were searching for a motive.
THE BRONX
*** Cops yesterday identified a man critically injured by a heartless hit-and-run driver in Fordham.
Wendell Moore, 27, of The Bronx, was run down at about 9:35 p.m. Friday on the Grand Concourse at East 196th Street.
Moore was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, with severe head trauma, sources said.
*** One bumbling member of a two-man stickup team, who accidentally shot himself in the face during the robbery of a Mott Haven deli, was arrested early yesterday, sources said.
Latie Whitley, 34, allegedly entered the deli, at 362 Willis Ave., with a cohort at about 12:25 a.m. and announced a robbery, the sources said.
The pair took approximately $1,400 from two victims, but Whitley allegedly suffered an accidental graze wound during the holdup. Police were called to the scene and nabbed Whitley a short time later at 353 E. 143rd St. – around the corner from the deli.
He was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition. Charges against him were pending. Police were searching for his partner.
MANHATTAN
*** A man was arrested at a Harlem bank yesterday by an off-duty cop working a security detail, police said.
Anthony Johnson, 21, allegedly entered the Commerce Bank, at 300 W. 125th St. at 2:30 p.m. and passed a threatening note to a teller who screamed for police.
The shouts were heard by the cop moonlighting as a bank guard and he captured Johnson without incident. Charges against him were pending.
