NYPD officers shot at an armed suspect and then tased him in a wild melee in the Bronx on Thursday evening, police sources said.

The cops opened fire just after 9 p.m. on East 219th street near Laconia Avenue when they responded to a call for an emotionally disturbed person.

When officers arrived, they saw a man with a handgun, who took off and ran behind a building at 1062 East 219th Street.

When cops caught up to the suspect, he turned and pointed the gun at cops who then opened fire. The suspect, who was not struck, then dropped the gun and fled inside a bodega on 216th street, where cops caught up to him and tased him.

Both cops were transported to a local hospital for ringing in their ears. The suspect was also taken to the hospital as a result of the taser.

It’s unclear how many shots were fired or how many cops discharged their weapons.
