NYPD Sgt. Scott Johnston died Thursday in Manhattan after a two-year battle with 9/11-related melanoma.

Johnston, 50, of Levittown, was a 21-year police veteran assigned to the city-wide Strategic Response Group and a former captain in his hometown fire department. He is survived by his wife, Kristin and seven daughters, all in college, including a set of triplets.

“Scott is a true gentleman and has done so much for so many people in the city, in his hometown community and most of all, for his wife and seven daughters,” says a GoFundMe page set up to help the family with tuition and medical costs.
