With city roads and sidewalks increasingly clogged by holiday travelers, the NYPD on Monday kicked off a new pedestrian safety program.

The Holiday Pedestrian Safety Initiative, which aims to “prevent injuries and create a safe environment,” especially in areas around city senior center locations, will last until Dec. 20.

Police patrolling the designated locations will focus on enforcing Vision Zero moving violations, such as Failure to Yield to Pedestrian, the NYPD said.

Traffic deaths are down by 10 percent this year compared to last – and pedestrian fatalities have been reduced by more than 4 percent in the same period.
