An NYPD officer died from complications of COVID-19 in Staten Island on Wednesday morning – the 64th member of the nation’s largest police force to die of the disease, officials said.
Officer Daniel Sanchez, 47, passed away around 2:20 a.m. at Richmond University Medical Center of an illness related to COVID, officials said.
Sanchez, who was assigned to Highway Unit #5, was admitted to Staten Island University North on Nov. 22.
Sanchez joined the department in 2007 and was assigned to the Highway District in 2015.
Sanchez was the 64th NYPD member to die of COVID-19.
