An NYPD officer was in critical condition early Tuesday morning after being struck by a car on the Long Island Expressway in Queens, cops said.
The highway officer was investigating a previous accident on the highway in Fresh Meadows at around 2 a.m. when he was struck by the vehicle, according to police.
The officer was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens in critical condition. The driver of the car was apprehended at the scene.
Police shut down eastbound traffic on the expressway as they investigated the crime.
The driver was not identified early Tuesday.
